چکیده

Abstract THESEUS, one of the two space mission concepts being studied by ESA as candidates for next M5 within its Comsic Vision programme, aims at fully exploiting Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRB) to solve key questions about early Universe, well becoming a cornerstone multi-messenger and time-domain astrophysics. By investigating first billion years Universe through high-redshift GRBs, THESEUS will shed light on main open issues in modern cosmology, such population primordial low mass luminosity galaxies, sources evolution cosmic re-ionization, SFR metallicity up “cosmic dawn” across Pop-III stars. At same time, provide substantial advancement astrophysics enabling identification, accurate localisation study electromagnetic counterparts gravitational waves neutrinos, which be routinely detected late ‘20s ‘30s second third generation Gravitational Wave (GW) interferometers future neutrino detectors, all kinds GRBs most classes other X/gamma-ray transient sources. Under these respects, great synergies with large observing facilities domain. A Guest Observer comprising Target Opportunity (ToO) observations, expand science return mission, include, e.g., solar system minor bodies, exoplanets, AGN.

The Science of Pamela Space Mission

Many different mechanisms can contribute to antiprotons and positrons production, ranging from conventional reactions up to exotic processes like neu-tralino annihilation. The open problems are so fundamental (i.e.: is the universe symmetric in matter and antimatter ?) that experiments in this field will probably be of the greatest interest in the next years. Here we will summarize the present ...

The Space Interferometry Mission

The Space Interferometry Mission (SIM) will be 10-m Michelson interferometer in Earth-trailing solar orbit. AS a part of NASA's Origins program, it will be the first space-based optical interferometer designed for precision astrometry. As well as enabling forefront astronomical science, SIM will serve as a technology pathfinder for future Origins missions, such as the Terrestrial Planet Finder ...

The Concept of a Stare-Mode Astrometric Space Mission

In this paper, we introduce the concept of a stare-mode astrometric space mission. The traditionally accepted mode of operation for a mapping astrometric space mission is that of a continuously scanning satellite, such as the successful Hipparcos and planned Gaia missions. With the advent of astrometry missions mapping out stars to 20th magnitude, the stare mode has become competitive. A stare ...

To Appear in the Rosetta Mission—space Science Review

We describe the design, performance and scientific objectives of the NASA-funded ALICE instrument aboard the ESA Rosetta asteroid flyby/comet rendezvous mission. ALICE is a lightweight, low-power, and low-cost imaging spectrograph optimized for cometary far-ultraviolet (FUV) spectroscopy. It will be the first UV spectrograph to study a comet at close range. It is designed to obtain spatially-re...
